New dedicated Dance and Shows brochures

Southampton’s two principal venues for live performance; Mayflower Theatre and MAST Mayflower Studios present a huge and diverse programme of inspiring experiences. So many in fact that we were asked to develop two new brochures specifically focusing on the genres of Musical Theatre and Dance. The printed items would be distributed directly to those with an interest in both or either.

After meetings with the Mayflower team, much research, and lively discussions we agreed on a format that could also be easily used. In both cases the size agreed was A6 (105mm x 148mm), which is both handbag and pocket-friendly, helping the brochures to be retained and used.

However, to be able to display the content most engagingly and include the vast number of shows and performances planned across both genres, we needed some creative folding.

We (like many perhaps) have struggled when viewing large maps with the frustration of wrestling them back into their original covers (sometimes Sat Navs just don’t cut it) so we knew that both pieces needed to be large enough to hold all the detail we needed to show,  yet be small enough for easy reassembly.

Dance: became an A3 poster that could be easily cross-folded to A6. The inside holding the poster which displayed performances and dates for classical and modern ballet, ballroom, and musical theatre from around the globe – across the year. The other side held an introduction from dance legend, Carlos Acosta as well as an at-a-glance calendar listing,  clear directions to both venues, and co-hosted dance productions across the south coast.

Show Time: our musical-based brochure, needed an even larger space. We selected a Z card format. Similar to an old-style map but engineered and designed to be more easily used. Our design featured 33 dedicated musical performances from July 2024 to October 2025 (with more to be announced). With an introduction from Robyn Grant, director and co-writer of Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch (from Little Mermaid!), walking maps showing both venues, and an at-a-glance calendar, we think this is the perfect way to plan the year.
